What is Zakat

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is an obligation and a spiritual duty on all Muslims to pay 2.5% on one's surplus wealth annually. Zakat purifies wealth and grows it.

Zakat aims to fight poverty and help the poor and needy. Zakat is more than an act of charity, it is the right of the poor and destitute.

Making a difference

Our human race began with Adam and we are all one family. Zakat allows us to make a real difference to the lives of those amongst our family who are marginalised and vulnerable. We are responsible for each other.

Prophet Muhammad taught us that we are not true believers if our neighbours sleep hungry. Socio-economic justice and equality is at the heart of Islamic teachings and Zakat is a dynamic platform to achieve that.

Zakat can be used to provide food, water, shelter, protection and deal with poverty alleviation, refugees, disability, disaster victims and human trafficking (as modern day slavery).
