Iftar at The Savoy 2018

One Family

On 25th May 2018, One Family’s much sought-after Iftar at The Savoy took place, in partnership with the Hemraj Goyal Foundation.

This exclusive evening brought together an audience of dignitaries, business leaders, entrepreneurs, celebrities and philanthropists from diverse backgrounds and was supported by Arc Management Consulting, Awakening Records, Bateel International, Clyde & Co, Ethnic Reach, Hallmark Care Homes, Maisha Design, Madhus, Ria Money Transfer, and Turkish Airlines.

During the evening, One Family’s Chair reflected on the charity’s impact since launching in 2017. “Over the last 12 months, we have incubated and launched over 10 new initiatives designed to channel technology for a higher purpose: transforming people’s lives. We’ve established strategic partnerships with world-leading organisations and high impact local partners. This is just the beginning.”

Hosted by sports presenter Manish Bhasin, the evening put a spotlight on the Syrian conflict and raised critical awareness and funding for those affected by the conflict. Throughout the event, the voices of Syrian refugees were celebrated, with 8-year-old Syrian peace campaigner sharing her wish for peace, alongside a poetry reading and viola recital from Syrian refugees living in the UK.

The audience were treated to a performance by internationally renowned spoken word artist Hussain Manawer, who shared his latest moving poem about losing a loved one, and struggles with mental health, which are both subjects that refugee populations are hugely affected by.

One Family ambassador, Richard Whitehead, was also in attendance and made an exciting announcement about a new gruelling marathon challenge he is undertaking later this year, to raise funds to support One Family to provide prosthetic limbs to Syrian refugees.

Awakening’s latest music artist Eman, gave a beautiful performance of “Rise Up” and Maher Zain, the multi-platinum selling star and co-founder of One Family, performed “One Day,” a moving song especially written for refugees. Zain has 25 million Facebook followers and had had over 3 billion YouTube hits in the last two years.

Two-time World Champion, Amir Khan, and chart-topping music producer, Naughty Boy, also showed their support.
