Maiti Café Open for Business!

One Family

We are delighted to share the news that the first-ever Maiti Café, a start-up social enterprise venture run by survivors of human trafficking, has opened its doors in Kathmandu.

The interior has been designed to reflect the persistent efforts of Maiti Nepal’s 27-year struggle for a society free of trafficking, and the café includes a full-scale training centre which enrols and employs survivor and those at high risk of trafficking. Profits from the café will be donated back to support the critical services provided by Maiti Nepal.

It is hoped the Maiti Café initiative, a partnership between Maiti Nepal Foundation, Free a Girl, A’fno Nepal, and One Family, is the first of many such ventures and we look forward to sharing its success stories in the months ahead.

Samir Panthi, Director of Maiti Café said “I am grateful to One Family for working alongside our partners in making this dream a reality. Organisations like Maiti Nepal need to be self-sustainable to have a realistic chance of eradicating trafficking once and for all. We are one step closer to achieving that goal today.”

The Grand Opening was attended by Charimaya Tamang, recipient of the Hero Acting to End Modern-Day Slavery Award 2011, inspirational Founder of Maiti Nepal, Anuradha Koirala, Supreme Court Judge Hon. Sapana Pradhan Malla, and several prominent activists, leaders and celebrities.
