Tekk Group Donates 50 iPad 2 Tablet Computers to Maiti Nepal

One Family

The Tekk Group, One Family’s event technology partner, have made a generous donation of 50 Apple iPad 2 tablet computers to power a breakthrough face-recognition app which helps identify missing people at crucial checkpoints across Nepal.

Every day, between 5-10 cases of reporting missing people arrive at the legal section of Maiti Nepal’s Rehabilitation centre in Kathmandu, and before the introduction of the Khoji, a new database and mobile application, missing person cases were recorded manually.

Missing person cases can be immediately uploaded onto a central database, with live images and details shared with field operatives working with local police, at crucial intervention points in the city and border checkpoints. Field operatives can take photographs of anyone they deem to be a missing person and Khoji, the app, instantly provides a percentage match against every missing person record in the database.

On witnessing the lack of reliable and adequate smartphones hindering the use of the app to its full potential, One Family reached out to our friends at Tekk Group for help. San Malik, Director of Tekk Group said, “We are proud of our partnership with One Family, and so pleased to be given the opportunity to help make a difference. Like One Family, we strongly believe technology has a huge role to play in tackling urgent issues in the world today, and the introduction of this powerful face recognition app is such a powerful example.”
