One Family’s leading iftar was delivered with rave reviews, inaugurated by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan on Friday 22nd April 2022. London’s 5* luxury hotel, The Dorchester, was home to One Family’s star-studded Iftar – one of the charity’s flagship events, which has become a key date in London’s social calendar.

Previously held at the prestigious Savoy Hotel, One Family’s Iftar launched in July 2017 to much acclaim, attracting showbiz royalty – including actress Lindsay Lohan, world-boxing champion Amir Khan, Brit and MOBO award-winning music producer Naughty Boy and many others.

This year’s black-tie Iftar raised funds for the charity’s Refugee Fund, providing support to its key partners, particularly the National Syrian Project for Prosthetic Limbs (NSPPL), which provides prosthetics and orthotics to those who have suffered amputations because of the war. The charity launched its Pledge 1000 campaign on the night – cementing its commitment to raising funds for 1,000 prosthetics. The charity’s ambassadors, Paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead MBE and singer/songwriter, Maher Zain, committed to raising funds through the Live to Give: Pledge 1000 challenge, due to be announced in the coming months.

Iftar at The Dorchester was opened by London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, who referenced the importance of supporting refugees, and commended One Family for its commitment to community cohesion. “One of the joys of living in one of the greatest cities in the world is our diversity, which is our strength. Tonight, Jews, Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, and those without any religious affiliation have gathered for a common cause and that’s a wonderful thing,” said the Mayor.

Iftar at The Dorchester was the Park Lane landmark hotel’s first event to be catered for entirely on-site with a bespoke, inclusive menu. Guests were treated to a four-course extravaganza courtesy of Executive Chef, Mario Perera, including an exclusively designed iftar canape tray.

The evening’s programme began with a recitation of Quran by Qari Arben Emini, from the UAE, who also led the call to prayer to mark the opening of the fast.

BBC Premier League presenter, Manish Bhasin, who was the MC for the evening, welcomed on stage guest performer Soumik Datta – virtuoso player of the 19-stringed, fretless sarod and co-founder of the award-winning creative hub, Soumik Datta Arts (SDA). Guests were also treated to a hilarious set by award-winning South African comedian and stand-up star, Loyiso Gola, followed by an impromptu set by comedian Paul Chowdhry, who was in attendance as a guest. Renowned auctioneer and Channel Five presenter Jonny Gould hosted the evening’s auction, raising thousands of pounds for the NSPPL.

Indian street-food restaurateur, Chaiiwala and global digital asset gateway, Fasset, were headline partners for the leading iftar. They were joined by event partners Jo Malone,

Awakening Music, Paul Robinson Solicitors, Aashni + Co, Enchanted by Syma, MyLahore, Topaz and The Date Company London. Calibar, Maisha Design, Breeze, Refine Events, Spectrum Events and Tekk Group were also supporting partners on the night.

One Family’s new partnership with The Dorchester will also see Diwali at The Dorchester hosted at the Park Lane hotel in October this year.
