All children deserve to be safe and loved, whoever and wherever they are.
“There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
Despite this universal truth, human trafficking is the world’s fastest-growing criminal activity. Around 1.2 million children are tricked into leaving their families or taken against their will every year, with the sole aim of exploiting them for profit.
One Family believes the root causes must be weeded out to combat this crisis.
Because every child has a right to be raised in a caring environment, free from harm.
In Nepal, a trafficking hotspot, more than 10,000 children are forced into servitude each year and sent as far afield as India, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Pakistan. The devastating earthquake of 2015 left many children homeless and orphaned, making them even more vulnerable. But even in more affluent countries, trafficking is rife, with 13,000 victims of modern slavery living in the UK alone. A third of these are children, many of whom are forced into crime.
All children need our protection, regardless of their background.
This is why One Family backs projects that offer grass-roots help. Schemes which provide both refuge and psychosocial assistance are vital to allow young people to re-navigate their way in the world, while also offering hope to those still in captivity.
We also support longer-term research into child-trafficking, which will help experts tackle the problem on the ground. Additionally, training for those who deal with trafficked children will encourage more victims to come forward about their experiences.
Please join us in the fight to defeat trafficking and restore children’s happiness.
Always stronger together, we are One Family.
